context and inspirtation
The design proposal process for bridge engineers is inefficient since the information they are looking for is scattered in different databases and websites. The websites currently used are hard to navigate and very outdated. The goal of the proposal is to gather as much information for the new bridge in order to come up with cost estimates.
The Goal
Design a solution to help streamline the APS (Advanced Planning Study) for Bridge Engineers.

Online Research
In order to keep our users in mind, I conducted research to learn more about the APS (advanced planning study) system bridge engineers follow and to look into the key factors they consider when designing new bridges.
User Interviews | Insights
I created an interview protocol based on the research I conducted and cross checked my questions with the bridge engineer on the team where we interviewed the design branch chief and bridge designer of Caltrans.
information architecture
I crafted a user flow to show the the team a better understanding of how the user will take a certain path.
low fidelity
Using inspiration from other mobile applications that allows users to locate specific locations like Uber, Airbnb, and Zillow, I created low fidelity wireframes and mockups.

Search Feature
Users are able to easily search for bridges based on the bridge number or by the county it is located in. By having an accessible app on their phone, it could be used during management meetings and making important insights on future bridge building plans.
Old Vs. New Experience for Bridge Information
Users have an all in one place to look up information of a particular bridge. Instead of browsing through hundreds of rows of data on spreadsheets, the most relevant information for the Advanced Planning System is accessible on the bridge detail page.
ABC Score sheet Questionnaire
The questionnaire is used during the planning phase of the project and determines how the bridge is going to be constructed. The goal of the APS is the gather as much information for the new bridge/fix/replacement proposal and come up with a cost estimate. By creating a form online, users could email and share their results with their peers.
Bridge Prediction
Based on number of spans, lanes on structure, lanes under structure, and average daily traffic, this feature could predict the type and kind of bridge that would work best.
